Cookie and analytics notice
The short version
We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not sell or share what we measure with an ad network. The only analytics on this site is Matomo, and it runs first party, under our own domain, so the data stays with us. You can opt out of analytics in one click. It does not require an account, and we never see who you are when you do it.
What a cookie is, in one line
A cookie is a small piece of text a site stores in your browser. Sites also use related browser storage, called local storage, for the same kinds of jobs. Below we use "cookies and storage" to mean both.
First-party analytics, and nothing else
This site uses Matomo to understand how the pages are used and where something breaks. Matomo here is first party: the measurement is collected under the peotools.com domain rather than handed to a third-party advertising network. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no cross-site tracking. At a high level, Matomo records page views, device and viewport size, clicks, scroll depth, form submissions, and JavaScript errors. The exact list of cookies and storage keys is confirmed from a live scan of the deployed site before this notice is treated as final; this draft does not list keys that have not been confirmed.
Cookies and storage we use, by job
Operating the site. A small amount of functional storage may keep a session working or remember a setting, such as your analytics opt-out choice. Security and traffic. The hosting and security infrastructure may set strictly necessary cookies to route traffic and protect the site. Measurement. Matomo, as described above. This is the one category you can switch off, and switching it off changes nothing about whether the site works.
We do not use cookies or storage for cross-site advertising, retargeting, or selling your activity.
Your opt-out
Opting out sets a preference in your browser that tells Matomo to stop. The preference lives locally, so clearing your browser storage can reset it. The opt-out control lives on our privacy policy, kept in one place: manage your analytics opt-out. You can also manage cookies through your own browser settings.
How this lines up with the privacy policy
This notice describes the mechanics. The privacy policy describes the rights and the choices. If they ever appear to disagree, the privacy policy governs.
